Smoothies are a versatile healthy food that is perfect for breakfast and a snack. My favorite is Blueberry Basil Smoothie. Smoothies can always be prepared in advance and taken with you to have a snack on the go. Smoothie ingredients can be so varied that the benefits they bring are hard to overestimate. Smoothies can contain vegetables, fruits, various grains and nuts, plant milk or natural yogurt.

You can add oatmeal and even ice cream to them. This is also another way to eat unloved vegetables or greens, since when combined with other ingredients, their taste will become unnoticeable. In this post I will share one of my favorite super healthy and delicious smoothies.

Ingredients and Substitutions:

Almond or coconut milk – For this recipe, you can use any plant-based milk you like. I usually use coconut or almond milk. If you are not lactose intolerant, you can use regular milk, kefir, or yogurt.

Pumpkin seeds flour – In THIS POST I talked how to make homemade pumpkin seed flour and its benefits. I use ground pumpkin seeds for baking and smoothies and this recipe is no exception. You can replace pumpkin seeds with hemp seeds, your favorite nuts, flax seeds or chia seeds.

Blueberries – Blueberries are a fantastic source of antioxidants. In fact, they are one of the top twenty food sources of antioxidants.I buy fresh in season or frozen, it is always available in the store. I like blueberries, and I rarely replace them, but other berries are also great for this recipe, especially strawberries.

Bananas – These add natural sweetness and eliminate the need for added sugar. They also add creaminess and the famous banana potassium.

Basil – This is my favorite herb and it is absolutely irreplaceable. No other herb will do anything similar, basil has a unique taste. The best and most aromatic is Greek basil. It differs from the usual one primarily in the size of the leaves. They are small and super aromatic.Basil contains many different types of vitamins, namely vitamin K, as well as magnesium.
